2006-10-02Students are energized by donation #2, and appear in the afternoon to start learning how to build a datacenter. 2006-09-29We've picked up our second donation from the Grid project. The donation's approximate value is between $150,000 and $200,000. Click here for information and photos! 2006-07-25We have moved the compute nodes across the room to gain access to additional electricity. The nodes and the management/storage unit, when all powered on, would overload the power available in thier location. The soon-to-be high school seniors in Mr. Yantis' matriculated ITNW 1358 Network+ class moved the compute rack across the room, and installed two ethernet connections to connect the storage unit and the scheduler to the switch that has been installed in the compute rack. The connections certified at 1000Mbps. Good job class! Next, Yantis configured the new scheduler to perform DHCP for the cluster, added NFS and TFTP services to the system, and migrated the kickstart procedure to this server from the development scheduler node. The systems are kickstarting, and we seem to need to fix NTP. DNS is now functioning on the scheduler as well, and it resolves the nodes. The only problem (and this will be more clear when we create the system diagram) is that the DNS server software needs to be configured to resolve IP addresses forward and reverse to accomodate the two private subnetworks. 2006-06-30The cluster project has been allocated approximately 250 sq ft on the second floor of the Connally building. This room is adjacent to a mechanical room where there are three transformers, and a large unused electrical panel(150 AMP). Planning is in progress to accomodate the electricity and cooling needs of the equipment. This room has been previously used as a cofee shop, but the fire marshall has decreed it an unacceptable location for food preparation. Lucky for us. 2003-2005 |
